What Causes Dandruff
Experts don’t really know what exactly causes dandruff (also known as scurf or Pityriasis simplex capillitii). But the good thing it’s not because of personal hygiene. A few things that can cause dandruff; some illnesses, people sensitive to yeast, dry skin, irritated or oily skin, not enough shampooing (that can cause build up), reactions to hair or skin products, or even your diet. Solution
There are lots of great shampoos out there to help control dandruff or in some cases even make it disappear. Sometimes what you think is dandruff could just be build up like I mention above, or even something as simple as shampooing the hair more often and correctly. Here are a few steps you can follow to get you started in the right direction:
Shampoo your hair with a anti-dandruff shampoo (all listed are ok for men and women)
- AG – Control Anti-Dandruff (This mild yet highly effective treatment shampoo is the most powerful anti-dandruff shampoo available without a prescription. Containing twice the active anti-dandruff ingredients, and none of the tar of other dandruff shampoos, Control’s concentrated formula eliminates dry, itchy scalp quickly, and leaves hair healthy and smelling wonderful.)
- Kenra – Dandruff Shampoo
- Matrix Biolage – Antidandruff Shampoo
Most professional brands carry a anti-dandruff shampoo, if you want to use something from a different line I think it would be better than using a drugstore shampoo. The ones I list I have seen to be the most effective.
Shampoo hair twice for better results. Read my article How To Shampoo for more tips.
If you are currently using a drugstore root lifter, mousse or hairspray try switching to a professional brand to see if that helps with your problem. Qualify ingredients are going to cost more, and that’s why I recommend professional hair products. You will be getting the most for your money. My favorite root lifter, mousse or hairspray are:
- Volumizer – Rusk Thick (for thin-medium hair)
- Volumizer – It’s a 10 Blow Dry Volumizer (for medium-thick hair)
- Root Lifter – AG Bigwigg Root Spray (like mousse but only for roots)
- Mousse – Kenra Volume Mousse (for people who prefer mousse)
- Hairspray- Joico Finishing Spray (strong but flexible hold)
- Hairspray – Tigi Bed Head Hard Head (strong-hold)
I know this article is about dandruff but I want to make sure I answer all the question you might have to the tips I’m giving you. The first thing I would do is of course start by using a anti-dandruff shampoo. If you are using other types of drugstore hair products and want to switch to a professional version, ask me below or email me.
Doing something is better than doing nothing
Hopefully one of those shampoos will help control your dandruff. I know people who used one of the listed shampoos above and saw big results. And some of them use it much less now or only when they see flakes reappear.
