Every winter my hands go insanely dry! They crack, and they bleed. Working with hair and washing my hands all day long doesn’t help the matter either. I just ran out of my favorite lotion and realized how bad my problem is.
What causes hands to dry out
The environment in our daily lives plays a big role. The cold weather outside and then the hot heat inside. Washing our hands frequently to avoid catching a cold, or maybe our jobs require us to wash our hands all day long.
How to treat dry hands
Drinking tons of water won’t do the trick this time. The main tip is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Try doing it after every time you wash your hand and when you feel them being extra dry! I was staying in another country during the winter, and it was -8 degrees outside. My hands were cracking and bleeding. So I went to the pharmacy, and the pharmacist told me to take vitamin C pills and to use a good lotion. (You need vitamin C for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It helps the body make collagen, an important protein used to make skin and heal wounds.) So I did just that, and very quickly my hands started to heal.
My favorite products to reverse dryness
One Minute Manicure Hand Foot & Body Scrub: When you scrub and exfoliate your hands, they will better absorb the lotion you will later use. After just one time, my hands already felt different. Just apply a small amount of scrub with oil on dry hands and gently exfoliate for a minute, then rinse off just the salts, pat the water off your hands with a paper towel and massage the oil that’s left into your hands. There are different scents, I use Ginger Citrus. Feels and smells amazing. And the oil I mention is already in the jar with the scrub.
Majestic Pure Tra Tree Oil Moisturizing Cream Its perfect for your hands, feet and even your face. I honestly can’t fall asleep without putting this lotion on my feet. Also, my legs always itch, and this cream has been life changing, I don’t even use it as often on my itchy legs as I used to because I feel like it has almost healed my problem since childhood. I’d say this is my number one cream I can’t live without. I put a little in a to-go container, so I always have it with me especially during the season changes that we experience in Washington. During summer my hands itch too from being in the sun and this cream helps the itching calm down. Therefore, it’s not only great for dry skin but also great to stop itching! The scent of this cream smells like tea tree, almost like a medicated cream but the smell wears off after some time.
Aveeno Repairing Hand Mask: These are made with Prebiotic Oat and Shea Butter for moisturizing extra dry skin, and they have no fragrance which is important for me personally but also, I can’t imagine putting too much fragrance on cracked hands. These masks have really helped me with my cracked dry hands. My niece has some major dry skin problems on her hands specifically and these masks instantly helped her relieve the dryness, I brought them on vacation once and just put them on her while she watched something on her iPad. I buy these in bulk on Amazon or grab a few at Target but these are a must have in my home and the same ones for the feet work miracles!
Organic Vitamin E Oil for Skin & Scars: I love this stuff! It is 100% pure natural vitamin E serum and it is hand made in South Carolina, it is Non-GMO, gluten & cruelty free, vegan and unscented, just all music to my hears. The way I used up every ounce was putting it all over my face and neck and drenching my hands in it almost every night until I ran out. I’m definitely adding it to my cart tonight!
Renew Sun Protective Hand Cream: This lotion works great and has a very mild scent that later disappears. If you are looking to heal cracked hands, this is a good thing. Perfect for outdoors since it has SPF in it and who can say no to that. I’m 40 years old, so I worry about things like my hands aging and age spots appearing but with this lotion I know I’m taking care of it. It absorbs quickly into your skin, and I never have that thick layer of grease on my hands.
I know all about dry and cracked skin. Going from doctor to doctor as a child was not fun, and my parents bought me any lotion I pointed to. Luckily, I finally found all these things that work for me!
For a quick at home fix, I apply Coconut Oil on my hands and put them in plastic gloves overnight. I wake up and my hands feel 100x better. It does mess with my nail polish but sometimes you just need something fast!
Hope this helps you like it does for me. Please let me know if these lotions help you. Also list below your favorite creams and let me know what helps you with dryness. Thank you for reading and please share.
